Approval to Work for Spouse of Malaysian Citizen

Recently, I have just gotten my approval to work. Since I am holding a spouse visa, it is stated clearly in my passport that any forms of employment is strictly prohibited. So if I get a job, I need to apply for an approval to work from the Malaysia Immigration.


7.30 am: Arrive at Immigration

Bring the following documents:

1. Offer letter from the hiring company stating:
- the job position & the salary
- signed by the employer and the employee; and with the company stamp.
2. Photocopy of company registration letter from SSM --> Get from the employer
3. Photocopy of business licence from PBT (Local Authority), applicable only for F&B sector --> Get from the employer
4. Passport and photocopy of passport (front page & visa page)
5. Malaysian spouse IC and photocopy
6. Marriage certificate and photocopy

7. Collect 'Surat Akuan Sumpah Suami & Isteri Form' from the Info Counter (ACTION: to be stamped by the Commissioner of Oath)

There are 2 Commissioner of Oath offices, Lot 02-23A & Lot 02-23C, located at the same floor (Level 2 of Shah Alam Immigration Office @Kompleks PKNS --> check out the full address below*). 

The legal officer came around 8.45 am, the processing time plus queuing for our turn is half an hour, fee is RM8. Both the applicant and his/her spouse have to be there to get this oath done.

9.30 am: Get a queue number

Once all the documents are completed, bring them to the Info Counter and get a queue number. At this point, your spouse has to be there with you. Because my queue number is still hours ahead, the officer is good enough to stamp in my husband's photocopy IC that he was present. So my husband could leave while I stayed there waiting for my number to be called.

1.30 pm: Submit documents to the officer

I submitted all my documents for the work approval application, checked by the officer and I was asked to come back the next day at 11 am to collect my passport. At the same time, I also extended my social visit pass to 2 years, click here for the details.

Final output: Passport with Work Approval Stamp

Collection of passport can be done by the applicant herself/himself. IMPORTANT to double check all the details are correct before you leave.
