Applying Long Term Social Visit Pass (Spouse Visa) in Malaysia

I'd like to record down all the processes I've gone through when applying the legal procedures that need to be done as a foreigner wife staying in Malaysia. The steps may vary from case to case but this is based on my experience as per my application in August 2014. I thought that I should share it too and hope it will be useful to other foreign husbands/wives who plan to stay in Malaysia.

Step 1: Obtaining the documents, going around to get stamped and submission of completed documents - for the new application for Long Term Social Visit Pass (used to be called Spouse Visa)

Pt.1 Docs obtained from home (those that can be prepared in advance)

1. Applicant’s foreign passport (original & photocopy - all pages)

2. Sponsor’s MyKad (original & photocopy)

3. Sponsor’s birth certificate (photocopy)

4. Sponsor’s income statement - 3 months latest salary slip (photocopy)

5. Sponsor’s supporting letter from employer / company (original & photocopy)

6. Marriage certificate (photocopy - 2 copies)

7. Extract of marriage certificate (pink copy) 

If you do not have this, it can obtained from any nearest JPN. My case is Shah Alam.

Office Hrs: Mon - Fri 7.30 am - 5.30 pm

                   Sat - Sun: 9.00 am - 2.00 pm

Processing time: Same day (1-2 hrs after the submission of request form)

Fee: probably RM7 (I forgot)

8. Passport photo - 4 pcs of applicant and 2 pcs of sponsor

9. Wedding photo - 1 pc 4R full body couple portrait 

FYI, if you do not have this, you can take the couple photo just at the photocopy shop beside the Immigration Office (Visa, Pass & Permit Department), which can be collected instantly.

10. Form Imm. 12 - 2 pcs

11. Form Imm. 38

12. Form temuduga VDR

13. Maklumat tambahan isteri asing

14. Akuan suami bagi menyokong Isteri

(ACTION: Just need to fill in all forms 10-14)

15. Surat akuan suami (ACTION: stamped by the Commissioner of Oath)

16. Surat akuan suami & isteri (ACTION: stamped by the Commissioner of Oath)

      There are 2 Commissioner of Oath offices, Lot 02-23A & Lot 02-23C, located at the same floor (Level 2 of Shah Alam Immigration Office @Kompleks PKNS --> check out address below*). The officer came at 9.00 am, the processing time to get the 2 documents above stamped is quite fast, maybe in less than 15 minutes, fee is RM16.

17. Security Bond (ACTION: Get RM10.00 revenue stamp)
To get this stamp, get out of Kompleks PKNS and walk to the building across the road.

Processing Time: About 1/2 - 1 hour

Fee: RM10

For the first time application, it is advisable to be at the Immigration office early (like 7am or earlier --> check out the counter operating hours below**) to beat the queue in order to get the forms from the Information Counter and process it quickly. Once all the required documents are completed, bring back to the Counter and get a queue number. Fill in all the forms while waiting for your number to be called. 

Upon the document submission, the officer gave me back my passport, my spouse’s MyKad, a pink colour acceptance slip, along with the quote of fee to pay. I was asked to come back a week later.

Processing time: 7 working days

My fee breakdown is: - to be paid the next week

Security Bond               RM 500 (varies, more info here)

Journey Performed            RM 515

Visa                       RM 15

Pass                        RM 90

Total                      RM 1,120

Step 2: Payment and Collection of Passport  

After 1 week, I went back there to make payment.

8 am: Submit the pink slip + my passport at the Information Counter Tray.

8.30 am: Cashier opens. Called to make payment at 8.50 am. 

12.00 pm: Collection time (before that you have to pass back the pink slip to the Information Counter Tray)

Final output: Passport with 6-month Social Visit Pass (multiple entry visa) + Official Receipts 

(NOTE: Collection of passport can be done by the applicant herself/himself but my husband was present at the time of payment. IMPORTANT to double check and triple check the name and passport details are correct in every step, they could make a mistake, as they have typed my name incorrectly in the Visa Page. As a result, I need to wait another 2 hours to get it revised)

Note:

- Shah Alam Immigration Office only serves Selangor State MyKad holder

- For China & African foreign spouse, they can only apply their spouse visa in the Malaysia Immigration Headquarter Office @Putrajaya

- Both the applicant and the spouse must be present at the time of application

- All photocopied documents should be in A4 size and accompanied by the originals
