Top 10 Local Foods in Malaysia

Here is the summary of my top 10 Malaysian local foods. I also recommend the locations, most of which are located in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur area.

1. Bak Kut Teh @Yu Kee, SS14

This is D best Bak Kut Teh so far. The taste of the soup is very consistent all the time, earthy sweet with the fragrant herbal tea aroma.

2. Ipoh Chicken Horfun (Rice Noodle) @Chong Thoong Kee, TTDI

The chicken is consistently moist, juicy and succulent. Normally, we order 1 whole chicken for 4-5 pax, with 'horfun' (rice noodles). Their shrimp wonton soup is also very delicious.

3. Roasted Duck @Restoran Damansara, Uptown

The roasted duck was pretty decent, the skin is slightly crispy and the meat is tender. It is just besides the famous 'Hokkien Mee' (stir-fried black noodle with pork lard) Stall.

4. Nyonya Food @Oriental Cravings, 1 Utama Shopping Center

Nyonya or Peranakan food is a blend of Chinese and Malay cuisine. Their stir-fried lotus root with french bean and stinky beans are the best. I also like their caramelised pork ribs.

5. Minced Pork Noodle & Curry Noodle @Kedai Kopi Wah Cheong, Section 17

This minced pork rice noodle is exceptionally good. It comes with the Chinese sausage and the fishcakes, I guess it's homemade. We also ordered the pig organ soup separately to complement the pork noodle.

As for the curry noodle, a typical Malaysian style with cockles, shredded chicken, fishcake slices and bean curd puffs.

6. Dim Sum @Jin Xuan Hong Kong Dim Sum, Section 17

This is one of the best place to eat 'dim sum' in the Selangor area. They have a variety of dim sum choices.

7. Pan Mee @Facetoface Noodle House, Damansara Perdana

Pan Mee is a Hakka-style Malaysian dish with different shapes of handmade noodle - long thin, long flat or square flat. Pan Mee normally has a kind of leafy vegetables called 'sayur manis', minced pork and dried anchovies. They also have the super spicy homemade dry chilli to complement the noodle.

8. Lao Shu Fen @Lot 10 Hutong Food Court

'Lao Shu Fen' or literally means rat noodle (because of its shape that looks like a rat tail), normally served in a hot clay pot with a raw egg yolk, which you can break and mix it into the noodle.

9. Curry Puff @Homi Curry Puffs, SS2

This layered-skin curry puff is freshly fried, the skin is so crispy with the hot steamy curry feeling inside. Only RM 1.20 for a quite big piece of curry puff.

10. Chinese Dessert & Snacks @KTZ, SS2

This shop sells all the Chinese desserts like green bean soup, red bean soup, gingko barley soup, hot and cold. They also have food and snacks. I like their lotus paste pancake and their yam cake.
